报告摘要:

Optical whispering gallery microcavities that support whispering gallery modes (WGMs) with high quality factors have shown great potential to achieve ultra-high sensitivity sensing up to single molecule or nanoparticle, which raises a huge demand on a deep theoretical insight into the crucial phenomena such as the mode shift, mode splitting and mode broadening in sensing applications.

In this talk, we will introduce an intuitive model to analyze these phenomena from the viewpoint of the nanoparticle-induced multiple-scattering of azimuthally propagating mode (APM). By providing simple analytical expressions, the model unveils explicit relations between these phenomena and the phase change and energy loss of the APM when scattered at the nanoparticle, and well explains the observed polarization-dependent preservation of one resonance and the particle-dependent redshift or blueshift.

In the context of current classical and quantum formalisms based on the coupling between WGMs, the model indicates that the particle-induced coupling between the pair of unperturbed degenerate counter-propagating WGMs and the coupling between the WGMs and the free-space radiation modes originate from the reflection and scattering-induced free-space radiation of the APM, respectively. The model further unveils the contribution of cross coupling between the unperturbed WGMs and other different WGMs that are not incorporated in current theoretical formalisms.

刘海涛,南开大学电子信息与光学工程学院现代光学研究所教授、博士生导师。研究方向为微纳光学和表面等离激元光学。

 

清华大学工学学士、光学工程博士,法国CNRS光学研究所博士后。

Nature2篇,第一作者1篇)、Physical Review Letters、美国光学学会、IEEE刊物等发表SCI期刊论文61篇,SCI他引877次,在国内外学术会议作特邀报告18次。主持国家973计划课题、国家自然科学基金等8项国家级和省部级项目。

获国家优秀青年科学基金项目资助,入选教育部“新世纪优秀人才支持计划”,天津市“131”创新型人才培养工程第一层次人选(最高层次),南开大学百名青年学科带头人培养计划。获得了法中科学及应用基金会Gilles Kahn奖,中国仪器仪表学会金国藩奖学金,天津青年科技奖,两次获得中国光学学会王大珩光学奖(分别为高校学生奖和中青年科技人员光学奖)。担任中国光学学会光电技术专业委员会委员,中国仪器仪表学会“光机电技术与系统集成”分会理事,天津市光学学会理事,期刊审稿人(Nature子刊,美国光学学会、IEEE期刊等),期刊《光电子•激光》编委。
